In October 2005 the first three organisations working for Ministries/Departments of Peace within their governments - based in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States - held the First People’s Summit for Departments of Peace in London.
These were:
Forty people from eleven countries attended that Summit and to strengthen this campaign worldwide they decided to set up a new organisation – the
People’s Initiative for Departments of Peace.
In recent months, the members of the People’s Initiative for Departments of Peace have been increasingly concerned about the growing conflict between the international community and Iran.
It was decided to issue a Statement calling for governments to use tried and tested non-violent conflict resolution methods to resolve this situation and calling on individuals and organisations worldwide to campaign for this strategy to be adopted by their governments.
ministry for peace in the UK have answered this call by setting up this new campaign and website -
Negotiate Peace. This will provide resources, briefings, background information, campaign materials and more for individuals and organisations wishing to take up the call from the People’s Initiative for Departments of Peace.
